  1. Pact signed on 29 Sept 1938 by the leaders of
  2. the UK (Neville Chamberlain), France (Edouard
  3. Daladier), Germany (Hitler), and Italy
  4. (Mussolini), under which Czechoslovakia was
  5. compelled to surrender its Sudeten-German
  6. districts (the Sudetenland) to Germany.
  7. Chamberlain claimed it would guarantee `peace
  8. in our time', but it did not prevent Hitler
  9. from seizing the rest of Czechoslovakia in
  10. Mar 1939. Most districts were not given the
  11. option of a plebiscite under the agreement.
  12. After World War II the Sudetenland was
  13. returned to Czechoslovakia, and over 2
  14. million German-speaking people were expelled
  15. from the country.
